Länsimetro (West Metro) has received the 2020 Nordic Lighting Design Award. Projects eligible for the Nordic Lighting Design Award are the national winners from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden from the past two years.
The award is handed out biannually by The Nordic Light Committee with the purpose to highlight and celebrate the special characteristics of Nordic lighting design. This is the first time a Finnish project has received the award since 2000 when it was created.
The Lighting of West Metro has been widely awarded also before this. It was chosen as 2019 Interior Lighting Project of the Year in Finland with special mention to the light art of Lauttasaari station. The West Metro has also received international LDA Lighting Design Award 2019: Highly Commended and LIT Lighting Design Award 2019: Winner prizes.
Helin & Co Architects is responsible for the architectural design of Lauttasaari and Koivusaari stations. The lighting for the stations was designed in cooperation with Valoa Design and Lighting Design Collective.
