The entry for REDI Kalasatama Centre won an international design-build competition in 2010. Part of the plan was an outline of a deck park placed on the roof of the commercial centre. The park in its completed form has now been chosen as 2019 Environmental Structure of the Year (Vuoden ympäristörakenne 2019).
In their statement, the judges describe deck park Bryga as forward-looking and inspiring. They continue: “The well-executed, unique and open for public outdoor space enriches the local environment, inspires new city culture and enhances urban ecology.”
The objective of the Environmental Structure of the Year Award is to celebrate high-quality environments with excellent planning and execution.
The participants in the realization of the deck park awarded in the ceremony were: Helin & Co Architects, SRV Construction Oy, Landscape architects Maisema-arkkitehtitoimisto Maanlumo Oy, Lighting Design Collective Oy, Sweco Rakennetekniikka Oy, Sitowise Oy, Puutarhapalvelu Hannonen Oy, Terrawise Oy. Helin & Co Architects is the principal designer of the Kalasatama centre.
